The Jerusalem Post reported a religious call from a rabbi who declared the I-Phone “impure”:
I wrote about this story only two days ago, speculating on the eventual outcome.
“A rabbi in Bnei Brak, known as “the preacher of uprightness,” invited dozens of his students to an iPhone-smashing ceremony at a synagogue in the city’s Pardess Katz neighborhood.
First reported by Devorah Ginzburg on haredi news website Lada’at, Rabbi Lior Glazer began by delivering an impassioned sermon on ethical behavior, a traditional theme in the Jewish month of Elul leading up to Rosh Hashana.
During his tirade, given from behind a table with an iPhone sitting on it, the rabbi inveighed against anyone possessing the popular smart phone.
“A religious person who owns this impure device is an abomination and a disgusting, vile villain,” Glazer said.
He then gave an account of a man who had purchased an iPhone, which “ruined his life” and on account of which he got divorced from his wife.
At the end of his sermon, the rabbi recited a brief prayer requesting that God defeat the nation of Amalek, an ancient enemy of the Israelites and Jewish people used as a catchall for evil in general. He then proceeded to smash the offending iPhone with a hammer in front of his audience until it was left in pieces on the table.”
This kosher boycott call sounded fishy because it was brand specific, like saying, “Do not buy Ford cars, they use gasoline.”
Sure enough, as transpired from jta, the real reason behind the call to boycott the “impure” I-Phone turned out to be a way of getting Apple to adopt “pure” Zionist propaganda about Israel’s military occupation and land annexation in its content:
“The map included in Apple’s new iOS6 operating system reportedly does not show Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Every other country on the map has its capital listed, The Algemeiner reported Tuesday.
In addition, the world clock included in the operating system lists Jerusalem without an affiliated country — the only city to be included that way, the paper said.
Apple did not respond to JTA requests for comment.”
Even if all jews observed the boycott, which is unlikely, how much of an economic blow would this be to Apple?
It will be interesting to see if Apple caves in to their demands for a kosher map.
Perhaps the jewish demand is too timid. Why limit it to Jerusalem? Why not be pro-active? Perhaps the map included in the I-Phone should list all of the Middle East as “disputed territory.”

UPDATE
Here is the outcome announced today– Apple’s cave in was almost immediate:
“Apple (AAPL) has endured a week-plus of heavy — and rare — criticism for the lousiness of the Maps program on its new iPhone 5, and now CEO Tim Cook is pleading for forgiveness.
Cook said in a statement that Apple had let its customers down by putting out a subpar product. “We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and are doing everything we can to make Maps better,” the statement read.
Apple’s iPhone 5 went on sale Sept. 21, and complaints about the shortcomings of the Maps program started early and came often. In short, phone buyers felt Apple Maps wasn’t even approaching the standard set by Google Maps, much less surpassing it, prompting a frantic search for a replacement. (Fortunately for the truly desperate, Google (GOOG) Maps continues to be accessible via the Web.)”
For all the dumb Goyim out there it’s all about map “errors” in general…. the Rabbi’s boycott call was not prime news so it is not easy to connect the dots.
